"We've won in the past, so it's a matter of personnel."
And who brought in this personnel? You did, Coach. You can't motivate the people you are bringing in here to play.
Roderick Rhodes played for Rick Pitino at Kentucky for three seasons in the early 90's. This is how he remembers his coach:
"Coach Pitino was an unbelievable motivator. He could get you to do things you never thought you could do. When you thought you had gone as far as you could go, Coach Pitino would push you up a level."
We need Rick. NOW.
Major Update:John Clay reports on his blog (Sidelines link on the left) the following:
Second worst back-to-back seasons
A look back into the record books shows that, with two games to go, this is the second-worst period of back-to-back years in SEC play for Kentucky in the modern era.
The Cats are 17-13 over the last two years. You have to go back to Eddie Sutton's last year and Rick Pitino's first year, when UK was on probation, to find successive years in which the Cats posted a combined conference record.
If you'll recall, Sutton's last year was in the midst of the "$1000 Fedex Scandal" that put us on probation, and just barely that. There was talk of a Death Sentence for Kentucky basketball then. And Rick's first year, he took a team of nobodies and finished 14-14. Basically a team of Division II talent, and coached them to a break even season after Suttons drunk ass got the boot here.
And Tubby has reduced us back to that.
