You are about to see what is meant by the words Basketball Tradition. University of Kentucky basketball has been around for over one hundred years. There is a long line of great basketball players that have worn that uniform in that time, but there are some kids who don't get it these days. In this day and age of the "I want it now" mentality, everybody wants to make billions of dollars ASAP. Nobody is concerned with the tradition of a thing these days. You were here, you did what was expected, and you jumped to the NBA. Don't take that wrong, I fully understand. Basketball as a job instead of basketball and school. Given the opportunity, I would love to do something like that to make a living.
But you didn't understand the tradition of UK, didn't embrace it. In the coming days, you will understand. And, hopefully, in hindsight, understand what you missed out on here in Lexington. Perhaps no one has the lineage that UK has to the very beginnings of basketball. Adolph Rupp played for James Naismith himself. You don't get much more pure than that. But you are in a place now that has the tradition to rival UK in the professional ranks. And you will see that in the next few days. Embrace it, learn from it, and run with it.
Good luck to you, Mr. Rondo. Believe it or not, everyone here is rooting for you. Thats how we do with all of our Cats, past and presen.
